Dr.
Ruth Pinkenson Feldman
Director, Early Childhood Education
RUTH PINKENSON
FELDMAN, Ed.D., has been the director of early childhood services
at Jewish Community Centers Association of North America since
1996. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University,
she attended Bank Street College of Education, where she earned
an M.S. in education, with a concentration in early childhood
education. A summer institute on educating the infant and
toddler at Harvard University preceded her doctoral work at
Temple University, where her dissertation title was “The
Impact of Jewish Day Care on Parental Jewish Identity.”
In 1995, Ruth participated in The Jerusalem Fellows Program.
Her project there was “Midrash, Meaning, and Imagination:
Towards a Hermeneutic Construction of Teaching and Learning
within Jewish Early Childhood Education”
Ruth founded an infant/toddler program at the Germantown Jewish
Center in Philadelphia and was a consultant for early childhood
education for the Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education
in Greater Philadelphia. At JCC Association, she has overseen
the development of An Ethical Start, an innovative values
curriculum for JCC preschools based on teachings in Pirke
Avot, as well as This New Month, a Web-based program for JCC
early-childhood educators, which provides teaching ideas for
the Jewish calendar.
Ruth has taught at Gratz College, the University of Pennsylvania,
Beaver College, and Temple University.
