JCC Association and its partners are calling all female role models and coaches

Girls need more women to act as role models, teachers, coaches and mentors within their communities. JCC Association is committed to increasing the number of female coaches–powerful role models for athletic girls– at local JCCs and at the JCC Maccabi Games®. That is why JCC Association and its partners will be hosting the second Women’s Coaches Clinic at the Lautenberg Family JCC of Greater Morris County, in Whippany, New Jersey on March 27 and 28.

The two-day training clinic will cover topics such as coaching philosophies, communication strategies, and methods for coaching, as well as how to structure practices and recruit coaches. JCC Association is thrilled to help JCCs actively recruit and train volunteer women coaches. By being proactive, JCCs will continue to set the standard of excellence for the field.

“We have seen a tremendous increase in female participation in the JCC Maccabi Games, and our goal is to continue growth and development not only at the Games but throughout the JCC Movement,” said Stephen R. Reiner, chair, JCC Maccabi Games.

JCC Association is partnering again with The Hadassah Foundation, the Women's Sports Foundation and the WinStar Foundation, who jointly hosted a similar clinic in October 2004.

The NFL through the NFL Youth Football Fund (YFF) pledged additional support so this year’s clinic can focus on flag football as a teaching tool. Both the NFL and JCC Association believe that, while anyone can be taught the X’s and O’s, the compassion that women bring can make the difference in the lives of boys and girls.

Also new this year, the Women's Sports Foundation is training JCC professionals on implementing the GoGirlGo curriculum into current physical activity programming. The goals of the GoGirlGo curriculum training are to provide tools to implement the curriculum, develop methods for recruiting and retaining girls, and to get inactive girls physically active by enlisting staff to become a most vocal advocate for healthy lifestyles.

“Everyone is concerned about what youth have to deal with these days---from peer pressure to bullying, self-esteem and nutrition. The GoGirlGo curriculum offers teachers, program staff and coaches the opportunity to support girls as they navigate from childhood to early womanhood. The curriculum tackles tough issues but is girl-centered,” said Monica Garrett, Sr. Program Officer with the Women's Sports Foundation.

JCC Association and the NFL have had a long-standing positive relationship. JCC Association is very proud of NFL’s support, and is particularly pleased to be able to add this meaningful dimension to the JCC experience.
